Trygve Brøske

Piano

Trygve Brøske is a pianist and composer based in Trondheim. He trained at the Trøndelag Conservatory of Music and the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève, where he was awarded the Première Prix de Virtuosité in spring 2001.

A versatile musician, Trygve collaborates regularly with singers Tora Augestad and Unni Boksasp. Together with Marianne Meløy, he forms the musical theatre duo Brøløy, and he also has a strong focus on performing contemporary music.

As a classical pianist, he has performed as a soloist with Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, l’Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and St. Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra. He has premiered works by Erlend Skomsvoll, Henning Sommerro, Beat Furrer, and others, and is also a frequently engaged accompanist and chamber musician.

Trygve has played in bands and accompanied numerous Norwegian pop artists. He performs folk music and is active as a pianist and arranger within theatre and cabaret genres. Additionally, he is the pianist for Music for a While, harpsichordist in the folk baroque group Musicus, and tramp organist in the Unni Boksasp Ensemble.

Recently, his composition work includes commissions for the Royal Norwegian Air Force Band, the Swiss choir La Psalette, Ida Løvli Hidle, and Trondheim Symphony Orchestra. In summer 2023, his opera “Kommandanten,” with libretto by Marianne Meløy, had its world premiere at Oscarsborg Fortress.

The duo Brøløy has created several theatre and musical productions and are also the initiators and curators of the Nye Hjorten Concert Series. Trygve Brøske was also the founder and long-standing artistic director of the Stangvik Festival.

He is employed as Associate Professor of Piano at NTNU, Department of Music. Trygve received the Spellemann Award for ‘Children’s Album of the Year’ in 2008 as a composer for Trondheim Sinfonietta, and the Spellemann Prize with Unni Boksasp Ensemble in the folk music category in 2010. In September 2014, he was awarded the Drivhusprisen from Olavshallen AS.
