Julia Crowell

Flutes

British-born Julia is Principal Flute of Gävle Symphony Orchestra. A versatile and flexible musician, she formerly held positions on flute and piccolo with the Swedish Radio Symphony and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestras as well as contracts with BBC Philharmonic.

As a scholar at the Royal College of Music in London, Julia studied flute with Jaime Martín, Susan Milan and Simon Channing, piccolo with Stewart McIlwham and Baroque Flute with Rachel Brown. During her time at college she won the McKenna Baroque Prize, Richard III Prize for Chamber Music and awards from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust and the EMI Sound Foundation. In 2007 Julia was a participant of the London Symphony Orchestra Woodwind Academy.

As a guest, Julia has performed with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Chamber Orchestra of Europe (including Beethoven Symphonies with Yannick Nézet-Séguin for Deutsche Grammophon), English National Opera, London Philharmonic Orchestra (including Glyndebourne), Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Swedish Chamber Orchestra and World Orchestra for Peace, amongst others. Future invitations include Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Julia has taught at the Grieg Academy of Music in Bergen, the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and has been a Flute Tutor for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
