Simon Phillips-Crawford is a pianist, conductor, and chamber musician with a passion for championing contemporary repertoire. Among his own ensembles are the Kungsbacka Piano Trio and the Stockholm Syndrome Ensemble.
In 2017 Simon was appointed Artistic Adviser and Chief Conductor of Västerås Sinfonietta. He has broadened the Sinfonietta’s reach and repertoire as well as launching the Sinfonietta’s own festival. Västerås Sinfonietta’s recent disc release, for BIS, features the world premiere recording of Albert Schnelzer’s Burn my letters and A Freak in Burbank.
His engagements have included the Aalborg Symphony, Nash Ensemble, Polish Chamber Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, as well as assisting Daniel Harding, Alain Altinoglu, and Stanislav Kochanovsky annually at the Verbier Festival. Simon is the Artistic Director of the Change Music Festival in Northern Halland, Västerås Music Festival, and Co-Artistic Director of the Wye Valley Chamber Music Festival.
Simon was elected a Fellow of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in 2010 and currently teaches at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg.
Frontside has existed since 2019 and is largely driven by volunteer efforts, but we are highly dependent on additional financial sponsors and fundings. All contributions are used to engage fantastic musicians, rents of venues and all other things that make the festival a magical experience.
