Maria af Malmborg Linnman is an actor, singer and director with a particular interest in bringing music and poetry together. She trained at the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts and has since worked as an actor, adding directing to her practice in the mid-1990s.
The poetry of Tomas Tranströmer has long held an important place in her artistic work. She has created two productions based on his writing, Den halvfärdiga himlen and Inomhuset är oändligt. Together with pianist and composer Stefan Forssén, she combines singing and poetry readings in programmes where jazz meets the words of poets including Tranströmer, Göran Sonnevi and Eva-Stina Byggmästar. Her concert performance Sättet att flyga, with bandoneon player Jens Lundberg, brings together Argentine tango, jazz and poetry.
Maria has also worked on larger music theatre productions. Her credits include adapting, directing and performing in the staged oratorio Det stora Världsägget, with Västerås Sinfonietta, choir and vocal soloists.
At Frontside 2027 – Below the Surface – Maria is the festival’s principal presenter, guiding audiences through its music, stories and encounters.
