Born and raised in Härnösand, Martin Ödlund developed an early interest in music and was active in numerous activities in his hometown as a youth.
In 2005, he moved to Stockholm to study at the Royal College of Music.
During his studies with Professor Anders Loguin, his focus was on solo repertoire and chamber music, particularly involving percussion ensembles.
With the percussion quartet Fable, he performed works by György Ligeti, Andrea Tarrodi, Iannis Xenakis, Mats Larsson Gothe, among many others.
In 2010, Martin took up the position of percussionist and timpani player with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.
His membership in GSO has afforded him the opportunity to perform with many distinguished conductors and soloists, as well as enjoy a rich chamber music life alongside colleagues in the orchestra.
Particularly notable is his collaboration with trumpet player Per Ivarsson, with whom he has performed numerous works for trumpet and percussion, including André Jolivet’s Heptade.
Alongside his work as an orchestral musician, he has been a member of Gageego, an independent music group based in Gothenburg, primarily dedicated to contemporary music.
He has also been active in several ensembles and orchestras, such as KammarensembleN, Curious Chamber Players, Kroumata, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Since spring 2025, Martin Ödlund has been a member of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
