Çağatay Akyol

Harp

Çağatay Akyol was born in 1969 in Balıkesir in western Turkey. In 1980, he auditioned for the Conservatory in Ankara with the desire to play the violin, but harpist Kaysu Doğansoy suggested he play the harp instead because he was left-handed. Akyol accepted this suggestion and thus became Kaysu Doğansoy’s student.

Between 1989 and 1995, he worked as a solo harpist in the Presidential Symphony Orchestra in Ankara, a position he has resumed in recent years.

As a soloist, he has performed with numerous orchestras around the world, participated in various music festivals, and collaborated with renowned conductors such as Claudio Abbado and Bernard Haitink. In 2009, he participated in an EU project on Hittite music from Anatolia, and three Turkish composers have written works specifically for him.
