Hara Alonso

Composer

Hara Alonso is a Stockholm-based pianist, composer and sound artist from Spain.

Her compositional process is grounded in performance and corporeal experience, exploring multisensory practices, memory, space and imagination as instruments for sound-making.

Hara’s music has been showcased in the form of ensemble, solo, sound installation and EAM in festivals such as Mutek (Mexico), Keroxen (Spain) or Sound of Stockholm (Sweden).  She has collaborated extensively in the dance scene, working, among others, with the choreographers Pontus Pettersson, Oda Brekke, Martin Sonderkamp and Eleonora dall’Asta.

In the last years she has expanded the timbral and performative possibilities of the piano through extended techniques, somatic practices and signal processing. Her sonic universe, described as a ‘gloomy bubbling electronic power ambient’, navigates between granular landscapes, minimal beats and hypnotic layers with a strong micro lyrical presence.

In 2018 her first EP, ‘Pianoïse’ for piano and electronics, was released by the label Keroxen. In 2021, Eotrax released her acclaimed first solo album ‘Somatic Suspension’. Free jazz album ‘Ritual para acercarse’ came out in 2022 in collaboration with Susana Santos Silva (trumpet), Elsa Bergman (double bass) and Camila Nebbia (sax) by Ramble Records. ‘Notions of hope’, released in pianoandcoffee records, came out in autumn 2023 with 10 meditative piano tracks. ‘Towards the melancholy of a future’ in collaboration with Concepción Huerta was released in 2024 in the label Superpang. Her new album ‘touch-me-not’ came out this spring in the Berlin based label FUU.

Hara works as researcher in the project ‘Bodies as Ears’ at the Stockholm University of the Arts. She has lectured composition, music programming and improvisation at The Royal College of Music (KMH) in Stockholm and the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) in Barcelona.
