The composer Lei Feng Johansson resides outside of Gothenburg but was born and raised in the city of Zheng Zhou in the Henan province of China, and began playing the piano at the age of five.
From 1988 to 1993, she studied composition at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing under Prof. Ming-xin Du. From 1996 to 1997, she pursued post-graduate studies at the same school under Prof. Xiao-gang Ye. In 1999, she traveled to Gothenburg to study under Prof. Ole Lützow-Holm at the Artisten (Gothenburg University), where she received her diploma in 2004. In 1998, her cello concerto “The Mood of the End of the Year” won the “Audience Prize” at the 7th Composition Competition in Taiwan.
Since 1988, Lei has composed numerous pieces for solo instruments, ensembles, orchestras, children’s choirs, etc., and her music is performed worldwide.
It was a great honor that her composition “Fantasy of the Far East” for clarinet, sheng, cello, and percussion, had it’s premiere at Frontside festival on January 19, 2020.
Frontside has existed since 2019 and is largely driven by volunteer efforts, but we are highly dependent on additional financial sponsors and fundings. All contributions are used to engage fantastic musicians, rents of venues and all other things that make the festival a magical experience.
